SORM discontinues Basic First Aid & CPR training

SORM is discontinuing its popular Basic First Aid and CPR training effective Sept. 1, 2010. SORM’s training specialists are working hard to expand their course offerings and create an online library of training materials to serve the diverse needs of the 185,000 employees the agency serves. Unfortunately, changing the focus to better serve the needs of its client agencies forces SORM to discontinue some popular course offerings. Because incidents requiring CPR are rarely associated with an employee’s work, providing CPR classes does not significantly reduce risks or costs to the State and, for that reason, will no longer be offered through SORM’s training section.

The good news is that CPR training is readily available in most areas of the state through local organizations like the American Red Cross and by private contract vendors at a reasonable cost. Agencies that would like to continue to provide this training to their staff can find links below to some of the organizations offering CPR training. If agencies still need additional help finding CPR training, SORM will be happy to assist them in locating an instructor in their area.

SORM’s Agency Outreach and Training section provides health and safety training to state agencies and their employees. Its goal is to focus on the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses. This proactive approach is intended to make the workplace safer and reduce the costs incurred by state agencies as a result of work-related injuries.

Trainings such as Additional Duty Safety Officer Orientation and Accident Investigation are designed to create a collaborative effort between SORM and client agencies in identifying and reducing risks. Classes for individuals such as Driving Safety, Slips, Trips, and Falls, and Office Safety cover topics with the highest injury frequency rate.
