The State Office of Risk Management announced today the selection of Deea L. Western, J.D., as the new Division Chief of Legal Services and General Counsel for the Office, effective April 20, 2015. Ms. Western will be responsible for oversight of legal services and direct counsel to the board of directors, management, and staff, as well as significant executive and enterprise management duties.
“Ms. Western is an accomplished attorney and a demonstrated leader,” said Stephen Vollbrecht, Executive Director of the Office. “I am highly impressed by her intelligence, her ethics, and her proficiency. She will be an unquestionable asset to both the agency and the board of directors, as well as our clients and the State.”

Ms. Western has served with distinction in the fields of education and private legal practice, and in progressively more responsible roles in the Office of the Attorney General and the Texas Department of Insurance. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University and Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas, and is licensed to practice law in Arkansas and Texas.
