Enterprise Risk Specialist

By statute, the Executive Director of the Office serves as the state risk management specialist and is responsible for supervising the development and administration of a system of risk management for the state. The Office’s performance measures include the goal to manage costs for covered state entities arising from the risk of loss through the delivery of professional risk management and claims administration services that are customized to specific entity needs.

Risk Management Specialists act as a representative of the Executive Director. Risk Management Specialists assist state entities in establishing and maintaining comprehensive risk management programs. Risk Management Specialists help state entities identify potential risks to people, resources, and mission critical functions before a loss event occurs. Risk Management Specialists assist state entities with identifying and managing enterprise risks at all levels of operations.

Level of Complexity of State Classification: Highly Complex
Level of Supervision of State Classification: Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The Texas State Office of Risk Management is administratively attached to the Office of the Attorney General and is governed by a five-member Board. The Office is charged by law to administer insurance services obtained by Texas state agencies, including the self-insured government employees workers’ compensation insurance program and the state risk management programs. Its mission is to enable State of Texas agencies to protect their employees, the general public, and the State’s physical and financial assets by reducing and controlling risk in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
