The State Office of Risk Management announced today the promotion of Michelle Y. Tooley as the new Director of Risk Management and Chief Risk Officer for SORM, effective April 13, 2015. Ms. Tooley will be responsible for direct oversight of the state risk management, continuity and risk transfer programs, reporting to the Division Chief of Strategic Programs, and will report directly to the Executive Director as the agency’s Chief Risk Officer in the development of internal and statewide risk management policies and compliance.
“Her contributions to the growth and stability of the risk management initiatives for the State of Texas cannot be easily overstated,” said Stephen Vollbrecht, Executive Director of the Office. “Ms. Tooley’s work-ethic and big-picture understanding of large objectives is unparalleled, and I am extremely confident in her leadership, and in her incredibly qualified team.”
“I am honored and delighted to be promoted into the position and look forward to continuing our agency’s mission with the outstanding team of risk managers and insurance managers currently at SORM,” said Ms. Tooley. “The relationships I formed as the senior insurance manager will continue to grow and develop with other client agencies as I take on my new role at SORM.”
Ms. Tooley has served with distinction at SORM since 2007, as a risk manager, insurance specialist, and senior insurance manager. She is a member of the State Risk and Insurance Management Association (STRIMA), and a past board member of the Central Texas Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) (2012 -2015), the National Speakers Association (2004-2007), International Toastmasters (2004-2008), and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary (2005-2010). Ms. Tooley holds degrees from Edith Cowan University, Curtin University, and Murdoch University, in Perth, Australia.
