Distracted Driving Awareness

Cell phones, multitasking, fatigue and many other factors contribute to distracted driving. According to the National Safety Council, car crashes are the #1 cause of workplace death. This month presents a good opportunity to develop or review your Agency’s driving safety policies and procedures. SORM recommends that Texas State Agencies who utilize motor vehicles in the workplace require that their employees take an annual driving safety course. SORM provides two convenient driving safety trainings with online and classroom options. Please visit the SORM website for information on our classroom driving safety training and to view our training calendar. Please contact your SORM Agency Risk Manager to schedule a facilitated online driving safety course through One Beacon.

For more information regarding distracted driving awareness, please visit the National Safety Council website. SORM encourages state employees to take the National Safety Council Pledge to Just Drive Free from Distraction.

The State Office of Risk Management (SORM) supplies this information in an effort to protect Texas State Agencies, the general public, and the state’s physical and financial assets by reducing and controlling risk in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. SORM’s goal for the Enterprise Risk Newsletter is to highlight specific seasonal risks and provide best practices for mitigating said risks.
