SORM provides leave benefits consistent with Texas Government Code and federal law.
A. Vacation Leave
Accrues monthly based on years of state service. Must be approved in advance.
B. Sick Leave
Accrues at 8 hours per month. May be used for employee illness or immediate family illness.
C. Sick Leave Pool
Employees may apply for additional leave due to catastrophic illness.
D. Holidays
Employees receive state holidays as approved by the Legislature.
E. Military Leave
In accordance with Texas Government Code Chapter 437 and federal USERRA:
• 15 days paid military leave per federal fiscal year for authorized training or duty.
• Emergency leave as required by law.
• Reemployment rights protected.
F. Family and Medical Leave
As described in Section 5 of the Human Resources Policy Manual.
G. Parental Leave
In accordance with Texas Government Code Sec. 661.9125 and federal Family and Medical Leave Act:
• 40 workdays (320 hours) of paid leave for the birth of a child by the employee;
• 20 workdays (160 hours) of paid leave for the birth of a child by the employee’s spouse;
• 20 workdays (160 hours) of paid leave for the birth of a child by a gestational surrogate; or
• 20 workdays (160 hours) of paid leave for the adoption of a child.
H. Other Leave
Including, but not limited to:
• Jury duty
• Bereavement leave
• Administrative leave
• Emergency leave
• Foster parent leave (as applicable)
